While the identity of the winner is not known yet, the organizers of the jackpot said that the winning ticket was purchased in Maine’s northeastern region.

The winning ticket was purchased at Hometown Gas & Grill in Lebanon. It cost $2.

Six lucky numbers were drawn on Friday night: 30, 43-45, 46, 61, and gold Mega Ball 14.

The odds of winning were 1 in 302.6 million, so it took three months to draw the numbers without any claim on the jackpot.

The winner may take $1.35bn in an annuity that has annual payments for at least 29 years.

The majority of jackpot winners prefer the faster but less expensive cash option. This was $724.6m for Friday’s drawing.

Since October 14, when the jackpot was won by a pair of winning tickets from California and Florida, the jackpot has been rolling. The prize is worth $502 million.

This is the second-largest prize in the 20-year history, surpassing only the $1.537bn in South Carolina in October 2018.

14 tickets were matched with all five numbers by winning the second-tier prize of $1m.

Four of them were sold in New York. Two in California. One each in Florida and Illinois.

Half the proceeds of each Mega Millions ticket sale go to the state that sold it. This money goes towards lottery beneficiaries like education, public employee pensions, and retailer commissions.
